Ajay Kaul
Ajay joined NSR Partners (NSR) in June 2010 and focuses on Investor Relations and Fund Raising activities out of the New York office. Ajay brings a wealth of global business experience and deep expertise in business restructuring.
Prior to joining NSR, Ajay was engaged in ‘start up’ activities since 2008 and served as the Chief Financial Officer for a start-up in the education space. As CFO, Ajay built the Finance function for the start-up and streamlined the operations to reflect the realities of business downturn of the past couple of years.
Prior to that Ajay spent 20 years in the Insurance Industry from 1988 to 2007 and led strategic initiatives for Fortune 500 companies such as American International Group (AIG), ACE Limited and Safeco Corporation amongst others. At Safeco Corporation, Ajay was the Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis. He built the department from ground up and was instrumental in the turnaround of the Seattle based diversified Insurance company with revenues in excess of $7 billion. He led the successful restructuring of the company, which involved divestiture of certain businesses (values in excess of $2b) and significant expense reduction (over $75m). The stock price more than doubled from its lows. Ajay also worked with the CEO of the company on other strategic priorities to position the company for future success.
Prior to Safeco Corporation, Ajay rolled up acquisitions for ACE Limited at the Lloyds marketplace in London and also led its market entry into Japan, the second largest insurance market in the world. Ajay also served on the committee evaluating international market opportunities for Lloyds. Ajay began his career in New York with American International Underwriters (recently renamed Chartis), the international insurance operations of American International Group (AIG). At AIG/Chartis, Ajay worked closely with the Executive Management on a variety of strategic initiatives ranging from strategy, finance and restructuring to underwriting and new market entry. Ajay was a key member of the pioneering team that established AIG in India, where the company now has a thriving operation.
Ajay is an avid sportsman and has represented his academic institutions in various competitions and in multiple sports. While pursuing his graduate studies, Ajay picked up racquetball for fun; two years later he won the University championship.
Ajay graduated with a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., and got his undergraduate degree from Mumbai University, Mumbai, India.
